MANKATO, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team started out the new year at All Seasons Arena but were unable to defeat the Saints of St. Lawrence University as they lost by a final score of 3-1.
Both teams skated to a scoreless first period but St. Lawrence scored 31 seconds into the second period to take a 1-0 lead. At 9:09 of the middle frame Kennedy Marchment increase the Saints lead to 2-0.
Senior
Kathleen Rogan, who has only played in three games this season due to injury, scored her first goal of the season to cut the lead in half at 6:50 of the third period with freshman
Nicole Schammel getting credited with the assist. The Mavericks were unable to come up with the equalizer as SLU added an empty netter to seal the win.
Junior netminder
Erin Krichiver made 30 saves on the evening and the Mavericks were outshot 33-23. MSU went 0-2 on the power play while SLU was 0-5.
Minnesota State (0-16-1, 0-13-1 WCHA) will travel to St. Charles, Mo., to take on Lindenwood for a trio of contest. The Mavericks and Lions will battle on Wednesday and Friday at 7 p.m. with the final game set for Saturday at 3 p.m.
