Mavericks Defeat Lindenwood 4-1 for First Win of the Season

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team scored first and never looked back as they defeated Lindenwood 4-1 on Wednesday night inside of Lindenwood Ice Arena. The win marks the first of the season for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks took the lead at 9:47 of the first period off a slapshot from the blue line by freshman Anna Keys that went underneath the pad of Lindenwood netminder Nicole Hensley for her second goal of the season. Redshirt freshman Sara Bustad and freshman Nicole Schammel each received assists on the scoring play.

In the middle frame the Mavericks were able to score at 6:35 after an initial shot from junior Katie Johnson off a two on one was saved and freshman Hannah Davidson came in and buried in the rebound to make the score 2-0. Just 40 seconds later freshman Amanda Conway scored on a rebound in front for her first career goal for the Purple and Gold to put MSU up 3-0. Lindenwood was able to cut into the lead at 9:31 to make the score 3-1 after two periods of play.

At 7:36 of the final period senior Kathleen Rogan added her second goal of the season on the power play as she was able to put home the rebound off a shot from fellow senior Shelby Moteyunas to solidify the 4-1 win.

In all, ten different players scored a point for the Mavericks. The Purple and Gold outshot the Lady Lions 39-27 and went 1-2 on the power play compared to 0-3 for LU.

Junior Erin Krichiver picks up her first win of the season and sixth of her career as she made 26 saves on the night.

Minnesota State (1-16-1, 0-13-1 WCHA) and Lindenwood (6-12-1, 4-5-1 CHA) will meet again Friday night at Lindenwood Ice Arena with the puck set to drop at 7 p.m.
