Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State women's basketball team beat #21 St. Cloud State on Friday evening by the score of 91-78.
With the win, the Mavericks record improves 8-3 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
In a first half where it saw three ties and eight lead changes, both MSU and SCSU shot at least 55% from the field. Both teams also combined for 12 three-pointers in the first half, and both shot at least 50% from deep.
Minnesota State would hold its biggest lead of the first half at 13:38 mark, as the Mavericks built an 11 point advantage, with the score being 21-10 over the Huskies. However, MSU's lead wouldn't last too long as the Huskies went on a 15-5 run to make the score 26-25, with 9:54 left to play in the first half.
Before the half ended, the Huskies would build their biggest lead in the first half at four with 3:28 left in the half. The Huskies lead quickly evaporated though, as the Mavericks would take the lead once again and would go into halftime with the lead at 50-47.

Aubrey Davis recorded eight points and four assists, while sophomore guard
Britney Scherber tallied eight points of her own, including two from three-point range.
To start the second half, both teams traded baskets for the first six minutes before the Mavericks extended their lead back to double-digits, 66-56, over the Huskies with 13:33 left to play in the game. MSU would stay in control for the rest of game as it held a double-digit lead the rest of the way, with at one point the Mavericks having as big of lead of 17. In the end, the Mavericks went on to beat the Huskies 91-78.
Scherber led the way for MSU in the second half as she racked up 19 points on 8-11 from the field, including 3-4 from beyond the arc.
Overall, MSU shot a blistering 54.5% from the field, including 12-22 from three-point territory. The difference in the game came from second chance points as the Mavericks outscored the Huskies 21-5.
Scherber led all scorers in the game as she finished with a career-high 27 points, to go along with her four rebounds. The Bloomington shot 68% (11-16) from the field, including 5-7 from three. Davis also finished with 13 points and eight assists, while Bresnahan and Delzotto each posted 12 points, as Bresnahan also added seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks to her stat sheet.
Next up for the Mavericks, they will continue their weekend homestand against Minnesota Duluth on Saturday at Taylor Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
