ST. CHARLES, Mo. --- The Minnesota State women's hockey team was unable to come up with the three game sweep of Lindenwood on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Lions defeated the Mavericks 3-1.

The Mavericks two-game win streak comes to an end and their record falls to 2-17-1 overall on the season while the Lady Lions improve to 7-13-1.

Lindenwood took an early lead scoring just 52 seconds into the opening period off a rebound in front. At 11:35 the Lady Lions struck again, this time on the power play, to take a 2-0 lead into the locker room after one period of play.

The Mavericks cut the lead in half with a power-play goal of their own at 14:45 of the middle frame. Junior netminder Erin Krichiver was able to find senior forward Kathleen Rogan along the boards at center ice as the Mavericks caught Lindenwood in the middle of a line change. Rogan and freshman Elin Johansson skated in the zone on a 2-0 break and Johansson was able to beat Lindenwood goalkeeper Nicole Hensley for her second goal of the season.

In the third period the Mavericks were unable to put one into the back of the net and Lindenwood sealed the win with an empty net goal with 58 seconds remaining to win by a final score of 3-1.

Krichiver made 15 saves on the afternoon and falls to 1-13-1 on the season. She also recorded her second assist of the season in the loss.

Both the Lady Lions and Mavericks went 1-3 on the power play while MSU had a 27-19 edge in shots.

The assist by Rogan gives her a four game point scoring streak. She now has 37 goals, 36 assists and 73 points for her career and ranks seventh on the all time career scoring list at MSU.

Minnesota State will return to WCHA play next weekend with a home-and-home series scheduled against second-rated Minnesota. The Mavericks will travel to Minneapolis on Friday to take on the Gophers at Ridder Arena at 7:07 p.m. before returning home to All Seasons Arena on Saturday where the two teams will take the ice at 4:07 p.m.
