Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D. --- The Mavericks offense finally came out of its shell on Saturday, putting up eight goals from six different players to defeat the University of Sioux Falls 8-1. This is the first time MSU has scored eight goals or more in a game since defeating Southwest Minnesota State 9-0 during the 2010 season.
With the win, the second-rated Mavericks move to 5-0-0 and 2-0-0 in the NSIC while the Cougars fall to 0-4-1 and 0-2-0 in league play.
Sophomor
e Dana Savino scored her third and fourth goals of the season, both coming off of passes from senior
Emily Moris, to give MSU a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Freshmen
Lexi Pszanka and
Jenny Hoerter each scored their first career goals as Mavericks. Pszanka scored unassisted in the 29th minute while Hoerter scored off a pass from freshman
Abby Nordeen in the 43rd minute to extend MSU's lead to 4-0.
The Cougars would strike back with a goal just before the half to bring the score to 4-1 at the break. The Mavericks held a 16-5 advantage on shots and had a 4-0 lead on corner kicks during the first session.
Sophomore
Kiana Nickel scored her first goal of the season in the 50th minute as junior
Jessica Bowe was credited with her first assist of the season. Nickel and Bowe would hook up again in the 55th minute, this time Bowe scoring the goal, her second of the year. Hoerter striked again in the 71st minute with freshman
Caitlin Foley getting credit for the assist. Foley would assist on the Mavericks eighth and final goal, finding sophomore
Maddy Smith in the 82nd minute.
Senior
Molly McGough and junior
Lauren Hoeppner each played a half in goal for the Mavericks with McGough getting the win moving her to 5-0-0 on the season. McGough gave up her first goal of the season while Hoeppner made one save on the afternoon. MSU's defense only allowed seven shots on the afternoon.
The Mavericks will travel to Marshall, Minn., to battle Southwest Minnesota State tomorrow afternoon. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
