MINNETONKA, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team saw its season come to an end Saturday afternoon as it fell to #30 Augustana 5-1 in the opening round of the NSIC Tournament.
With the loss, MSU ended its season with a 5-17 record, while Augustana improved to 22-1 on the season.
The Mavericks began the day winning one of the three doubles matches.
Freshman
Melissa Mashburn and sophomore
Alexis Haakedahl defeated AC's Christine Olivo and Heather Sullivan in the second doubles match by the score of 8-5. Junior
Shealyn Bakke and sophomore
Sarah McCann dropped the No. 1 doubles match 8-3, while freshmen
Abby Schmidt and
Danni Barr lost the third doubles match 8-0.
Leading 2-1 heading into the singles matches, the Vikings claimed three singles victories to secure the 5-1 win. McCann lost the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0, while Schmidt and Barr lost the fifth and sixth singles matches, respectively, by the scores of 6-0, 6-0.
Three singles matches remained unfinished due to Augustana securing the 5-1 win. Mashburn trailed Jessa Richards 6-5 in the No. 2 singles match, while Bakke and Francesca Beg were tied at 5-5 in the No. 3 singles match. Haakedahl trailed Olivo 6-3, 0-1 in the fourth singles match as well.
