Mavericks Sweep Beavers to Remain Perfect in NSIC Action

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn.--- The Minnesota State softball team pushed its winning-streak to 22 games and head coach Lori Meyer earned her 999th career win as the Mavericks swept Minot State, 13-3 in five innings in game one and completed the sweep with an 8-5 win in game two at the MSU Softball Diamond on Sunday.

With the wins, MSU improved to 32-6 on the season and an unblemished 16-0 in NSIC action, while the Beavers fall to 23-11 and 10-6 on the circuit.
The Mavericks raced out to a quick start in the first game of the day, besting the Beavers 13-3 in five innings.

MSU got things rolling in the top of the first inning as seniors Lindsay Erickson and Anna Cole each posted doubles with fellow senior Kelly Wood reaching on an error. Erickson and Cole each scored, giving MSU a 2-0 lead after the first inning.

The Mavericks scored one run on one hit with one Beaver error in the bottom of the second as sophomore Karli DesLauriers made her way across the dish, pushing the Mavericks' lead to 3-0 after two complete innings.

The Mavericks exploded for an eight run bottom of the third, scoring eight runs on four hits with one Beaver error. Freshman Ashley Thell, sophomores Laura Milligan, Abby Whritenour and DesLauriers in addition to Cole, Erickson, wood and fellow senior Samantha Holien all plated runs in the bottom of the third inning giving MSU an 11-0 advantage.

MISU connected on a solo home run in the top of the fourth before MSU added two runs on two hits with two Beaver errors in the bottom of the fourth pushing its lead to 13-1 after four complete innings.

The Beavers were able to plate two runs in the top of the fifth inning, but it was not enough as MSU earned the 13-3 win in five innings in the first contest of the day.

Freshman pitcher Coley Ries improved to 15-2 on the season giving up three earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts.

Wood led the offensive charge in game one, posting one run on two hits with three RBI including a home run.

The Mavericks wrapped up their doubleheader with an 8-5 win to extend their winning-streak to 22 games.
 
The Beavers got the scoring going in the top of the second as they managed to plates three runs to go up 3-0. Rachel Burdette drove in two runs with an RBI-single, before Jen Dixon posted an RBI-single to put MISU up 3-0.
 
The Mavericks would knot up the score at 3-3 after posting one run in the bottom of the second, third and fourth innings. DesLauriers drove in Thell with an RBI-double in the bottom of the second, before Erickson posted a solo-shot in the bottom of the third.
 
The bottom of the fourth saw DesLauriers drive in Thell once again, this time with an RBI-triple to tie up the score at three.
 
Minot responded right away in the top of the fifth as Stacey Fournier drove in two runs with a double to give the Beavers a 5-3 lead. MSU answered right back in the bottom of the fifth as they rallied for five runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of senior Kelly Wood to go up 8-5. Cole and sophomore Tatum Klein each posted RBI-singles in the frame.
 
Junior Brittany Lauterbach lifted her record to 15-4 on the season, she went all seven innings allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits with nine strikeouts.
 
Wood once again paced the Mavericks' offense in the second game of the twinbill, posting her second dinger of the day, finishing with three RBI.
 
The Mavericks wrap-up their homestand tomorrow as they host the University of Mary, first pitch is slated for 12:00 P.M.
