Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. --- The Minnesota State softball team extended its winning streak to 10 games Sunday morning as it swept the Bemidji State Beavers by the scores of 11-3 and 11-0 in five innings.
With the wins, MSU improves to 20-6 on the season, including a perfect 4-0 mark in NSIC play. With the losses, Bemidji State falls to 11-7, including a 0-2 record in league action.
Minnesota State began the day with an 11-3 win in the first game on Sunday's doubleheader.
Freshman
Coley Ries (9-2) earned the win as she struck out eight batters, while giving up just one run, through four innings of work. Junior
Brittany Lauterbach threw two innings in relief as she gave up just one hit and one walk. Jessica Yost (3-2) was saddled with the loss after she gave up 11 runs, on 16 hits, through seven innings.
The Maverick offense posted at least one run in six innings in their 11-3 win. MSU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first as senior
Lindsay Erickson notched an RBI-triple. Erickson later crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly from senior
Kelly Wood.
MSU added two more runs in the second, including another RBI off a sacrifice fly from Erickson. The Mavericks added two more runs in the top of the fourth to go up 7-0, before the Beavers finally got on the board behind a solo home run from Yost to bring the score to 7-1 in favor of MSU.
The Mavericks answered right back in the top of the fifth as they plated three more runs as sophomore
Tatum Klein launched a three-run dinger to put MSU up 10-1. Yost drove in two more runs for the Beavers in the bottom of the fifth to bring the score to 10-3, but BSU would get no closer as the Mavericks closed out the game with an 11-3 win.
MSU wrapped up the day with an 11-0 win through five innings.
Lauterbach (9-4) picked up the win as she threw five shutout innings. She fanned nine batters, while giving up just three hits and two walks. Danielle Jecmen (5-3) took the loss as she gave up eight runs, on 10 hits, through four innings of work.
MSU got on the board in the first inning as junior
Chelsea Riordan coaxed a walk to drive in the games first run. MSU added two more in the top of the second as Klein and Erickson each posted RBI-singles to put the Mavericks up by three.
After a scoreless third inning, MSU erupted for five runs in the top of the fourth to go up 8-0. Klein started the rally with an RBI-single. Erickson followed up with a two-run single before Wood followed with a two-run shot to left field.
MSU added three more runs in the top of the fifth to go up 11-0. Freshman
Ashley Thell drove in a run on a fielder's choice, while Riordan posted her second RBI of the game with a single up the middle as the Mavericks went on to the 11-0 win.
The Mavericks continue conference action on Monday as they take on the Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles in a pair of games in St. Paul, Minn. The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
