ORLANDO, Fla. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team fell to Radford 5-0 and Palm Beach Atlantic Wednesday on its spring break trip. With the losses, MSU drops to 3-12 on the season.
The Mavericks began the day with a 5-0 loss to Radford. The dual was limited in length due to rain delays.
MSU lost the only doubles match of the dual as junior
Shealyn Bakke and sophomore
Alexis Haakedahl lost to Taylor Fay and Gisela Garcia 6-1, 6-1.
The Mavericks then lost all four of the singles matches of the dual. Freshman
Melissa Mashburn lost the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-3, while sophomore
Sarah McCann took the loss in the No. 2 singles match 6-0, 6-1. Senior
Alexis Ronney and freshman
Abby Schmidt lost 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 and No. 4 singles matches, respectively.
MSU finished its day with a 9-0 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Mavericks lost all three doubles matches to begin the dual against the Sailfish. Mashburn and Ronney put forth the best showing as they lost 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles match.
MSU finished the dual losing all six of the singles matches to Palm Beach Atlantic. Mashburn lost to Yoanna Peshev in the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-2, while Bakke lost to Jessica Wharton 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 3 singles match.
MSU wraps up its spring break trip Thursday as it takes on Franklin and Marshall College, at 10:30 a.m.
