#21 Mavericks Trounce Cougars on Senior Night

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The #21 Minnesota State men's basketball team ended its regular season home schedule in exciting fashion as it dominated the Sioux Falls Cougars, en route to a 109-64 win Saturday evening in Taylor Center.

With the win, MSU improves to 21-4, including a 15-3 record in NSIC play. With the loss, USF falls to 12-10 on the season, including a 9-9 mark in league action. The Mavericks finished their regular season home schedule with a 14-1 record at Taylor Center.

MSU was not shy about spreading the scoring around as a total of seven Mavericks recorded at least 10 points on the night.

Junior Zach Monaghan led the way with 23 points and eight assists, while senior Tanner Adler dropped in 17 points. Junior Zach Romashko added 14 points, including a 4-of-6 showing from behind the arc.

Senior Gage Wooten tallied 12 points and six rebounds, while the duo of senior Connor O'Brien and sophomore TJ Okafor notched 11 points. Freshman Mike Busack added 10 points off the bench as well.

As a unit, MSU shot 60% (39-of-65) from the field, including a 15-of-27 (.556) showing from behind the arc. The Mavericks also brought down 44 rebounds and passed out 26 assists.

Derek Brown led the Cougar offense with 18 points.
 
MSU led throughout the entire first half as it took a 58-25 lead into the locker room. As a unit, the Mavericks connected on 21-of-30 (.700) shots from the field, including a 6-of-8 (.750) showing from beyond the arc.

Monaghan led all scorers with 18 first half points, to along with six assists. Adler dropped in nine points, while junior Assem Marei added eight points, five rebounds and three assists in the first half.

Brown led the Cougars in the first frame with seven points.

MSU kept the pressure on as it led by more than 30 points throughout the entire second half as it claimed its 21st victory of the season with a 109-64 win. The 109 points represents the third time this season the Mavericks have recorded more than 100 points in a game.

The Mavericks begin a four-game road trip Friday to wrap up the regular season as they take on the Bemidji State Beavers. The opening tip is set for 8 p.m.
