BISMARCK, N.D. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team found itself it a tough dual against the University of Mary Friday, but it was the Marauders that would come out on top with the 5-4 win.
With the loss, MSU falls to 2-5 on the season, including a 1-2 mark in NSIC play. With the win, U-Mary improves to 2-0 on the season and 2-0 in league action.
The Marauders swept all three of the doubles matches to go up 3-0. The pairings of freshman
Melissa Mashburn and sophomore
Sarah McCann in the No. 1 doubles match and junior
Shealyn Bakke and senior
Alexis Ronney in the No. 2 doubles match each fell by the score of 9-7.
MSU managed to win four of the singles matches as U-Mary held on for the 5-4 win.
Mashburn defeated Sarah Janes in the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 4-6, 10-4, while Bakke won the third singles match 7-5, 7-6. Ronney claimed the No. 5 singles match over Kate O'Connell 6-3, 6-3, while freshman
Abby Schmidt defeated Alexis Tatter in the sixth singles match 6-0, 6-1.
Mashburn dropped the first singles match to Hallie Welk 6-0, 6-3, while sophomore
Alexis Haakedahl fell in the No. 4 singles match by the scores of 6-4, 6-2.
MSU returns to action Saturday as it takes on Augustana in Bismarck, N.D., at 8 a.m.
