Long Range Shooting Favors Mavericks in Win Over Beavers

Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The long range game was in full force Saturday evening in Taylor Center, but it was #22 Minnesota State that came out on top with a 105-95 win over Minot State.

With the win, the Mavericks improve to 19-4, including a 13-3 record in NSIC play. With the loss, Minot State falls to 7-13, with a 3-13 record in league play.

The Mavericks and Beavers both utilized their long range shooting as they combined for 31 three point field goals, as the Mavericks set a new single-game record with 17 three point shots made.

Junior Zach Monaghan had a career night as he posted a career-high 31 points and 14 assists for his sixth career double-double. He finished his evening shooting 6-of-12 from behind the arc.

Senior Tanner Adler made his presence felt as well as he dropped in 21 points, while shooting 6-of-8 from three point land. Junior Assem Marei added 18 points and seven rebounds, while senior Gage Wooten notched 11 points.

Minot State led early in the opening session, but MSU would take control of the half with just over 17 minutes to play. MSU led by as many as 14 as it took a 52-41 lead into the locker room.

As a team, MSU connected on 29-of-51 (.569) shots from the field, while passing out 25 assists. The Mavericks also posted 30 rebounds and for 10 Minot State turnovers.

Dominique McDonald led the Beaver offense with 29 points, while E.J. Williams added 20 points and five assists.

Minnesota State put on a show from long range in the first half as it connected on 10-of-15 (.667) shots, while shooting 15-of-25 (.600) from the field. The Mavericks also brought down 16 rebounds and passed out 15 assists.

Adler led all scorers in the first half with 18 points as he connected of 5-of-6 shots from behind the arc. Monaghan added seven points and nine helpers in the first half, while Wooten tallied seven points.

Minot State managed to pull within one point of the Mavericks in the second half at 74-73 with 9:28 remaining, but that was as close as it would get as MSU outscored the Beavers 29-22 in the final nine minutes to secure the 106-95 win.

Minnesota State continues its homestand Friday as it hosts the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs. The opening tip is set for 8 p.m.
