Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Minnesota State Blanked by #9 Bemidji State Saturday Afternoon

BEMIDJI, Minn. --- Minnesota State was unable to figure out Bemidji State goaltender Brittni Mowat on Saturday at Sanford Center in Bemidji as the Mavericks fell to the Beavers 2-0 in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association showdown.

The Mavericks drop to 0-15-1 overall and 0-13-1 in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play this season. The Beavers improve to 10-5-1 and 6-5-1 in the WCHA.

The Beavers scored the first period's only goal at the 8:51 mark of the first period as junior Erin Krichiver made a save on the initial shot from the point but the rebound escaped out in front and Rachael Kelly tucked the puck in for her fourth goal of the year. BSU did have two power-play's in the opening frame but the Mavericks were able to kill both opportunities while going 0-1 with the extra skater themselves.

The next score didn't happen until 8:01 of the final frame. Kaitlyn Tougas fired a shot past Krichiver into the top right corner of the goal for her sixth goal of the season to increase the lead to 2-0. Neither team could add a goal in the final minutes of the game as the final score remained 2-0.

Krichiver made 35 saves on the night and falls to 0-11-1 on the season.

Both teams went 0-3 on the power-play while the Beavers outshot the Mavericks 37-26 on the afternoon.

Minnesota State will have a couple of weeks off before returning to take on St. Lawrence at All Seasons Arena in Mankato on January 3. The opening face-off is set for 6:07 p.m.
