Moorhead, Minn. – The Minnesota State volleyball team lost to MSU Moorhead in three sets on Saturday afternoon by the scores of 25-20, 25-17 and 25-15.
With the loss, the Mavericks record falls to 16-11 overall and 12-8 in the conference.
In set one the Mavericks were able to build a 8-5 advantage over the Dragons, before MSUM went on a 10-3 run to make the score 15-11. Throughout the rest of the set the Dragons were able to hold on to their lead as they took the set, 25-20. Leading the Mavericks in the set was a trio of players in senior outside hitter
Chandra Honebrink and freshman
Sydney Powell and
Vikolia Meade as each of them posted three kills.
The Mavericks in the second set were all tied up with the Dragons at 14-14 midway through the set before MSUM went on a little 6-0 run to make the score 20-14. The Mavericks were never able to cut their deficit as the Dragons won the second set, 25-17. Again it was Honebrink and Powell leading the Mavericks offensively in the set as they posted four and three kills, respectively.
In the third and final set, MSUM built a 16-6 advantage over MSU and never looked back. The Dragons went on to take the third set and match, 25-15. Sophomore middle blocker

Overall, Honebrink and Powell led the Mavericks as each of them collected seven kills in the match. Junior setter

Haley Fogarty led MSU with 15 digs.
The next time the Mavericks hit the court will be in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. MSU will take on Concordia-St. Paul on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in St. Paul.
