St. Paul, Minn. – The Minnesota State volleyball team lost to #3 Concordia-St. Paul in four sets on Tuesday night by the scores of 25-21, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-22.
With the loss, the Mavericks record falls to 16-12 overall on the year.
In set one, the Mavericks and Golden Bears were battling point for point as it was tied up at 17-17. CU was able to end the set on a 8-4 run to end the set at 25-21. Senior outside hitter

Sydney Powell each posted three kills of their own.
The Mavericks in set two built a 16-9 advantage over the Golden Bears before CU was able to cut its deficit to one, with MSU still leading at 21-20. However the Mavericks were able to finish the second set on a 4-1 run to end the set at 25-21. Hassing, Powell and senior outside hitter
Jenna McNallan each recorded four kills in the set as junior setter
Ellie Van De Steeg added 14 assists.
Once again in the third set, the Mavericks were able to build an early lead over the Golden Bears at 8-2, however that would be the biggest lead MSU had in the rest of the set. CU came storming back to tie the set at 17-17 and kept riding its momentum as the Golden Bears ended the third set on a 8-1 run to win the third set at 25-18. Honebrink and Hassing posted team-highs with five and four kills, respectively, with Van De Steeg adding 11 more helpers to her stat sheet.
In the fourth and final set, it was MSU again jumping out to a 7-2 lead over CU, until the Golden Bears fought back to tie the set at 8-8. Throughout the rest of the set, the two teams would go point for point as the set was tied up at 21-21. In the end, CU would go on a little 4-1 run to end the set and match at 25-22. Powell tallied six kills for the Mavericks in the set, as Honebrink and Hassing pitched in with four and three kills, respectively.
Pacing the Maverick offense in the match was Honebrink, Powell, Hassing and McNallan, as all four of them had at least nine kills. Honebrink led the way with 16 kills, with Hassing and Powell each recording 14 kills and McNallan finishing with nine kills. Van De Steeg ended up with a team-high 49 assists to go along with her three kills, three digs and two block assists. Defensively, sophomore libero
Haley Fogarty led the Mavericks with 12 digs, as sophomore defensive specialist
Rissi McNallan posted 10 kills of her own and was responsible for a team-leading four service aces in the match.
The Mavericks will soon learn their fate on Sunday, as the NCAA selection show is scheduled for 9 p.m.
