Aberdeen, S.D. – The Minnesota State volleyball team lost to Northern State in four sets on Friday night by the scores of 25-16, 28-30, 25-21 and 25-14.
With the loss, the Mavericks record falls to 16-10 overall and 12-7 in the conference.
In set one Northern State built a 17-5 advantage over Minnesota State and the Wolves never looked back. NSU went one to take the first set, 25-16 over MSU. Leading the Mavericks in set one was senior outside hitter
Chandra Honebrink, as she posted five kills while sophomore middle blocker
Krista Hassing recorded three kills of her own.
The Mavericks in the second set were tied up with the Wolves at 7-7, before MSU went on a 6-2 run to make the score 13-9. Northern State was able to claw its way back in the set as the Wolves tied it back up at 22-22 and it would stay that way to 28-28. MSU was able to take the next two points to win the second set at 30-28. Hassing led the way for MSU in second set as she tallied six kills while freshman outside hitter

Vikolia Meade each pitched in with three kills, while junior setter
Ellie Van De Steeg led the Mavericks with 18 helpers in the second set.
Minnesota State in set three were down 10-5 to the Wolves before the Mavericks fought their way back to cut the deficit to one, 20-19. However that was the closest the Purple and Gold got as NSU took the third set, 25-21. Powell led the way with five kills as Honebrink posted another three kills and Van De Steeg added another 13 assists to her stat sheet.
In the fourth and final set, the Mavericks built themselves a hole early, as they were down 9-2 to the Wolves. Throughout the rest of the set, NSU was able to sustain its lead as they went on to take the set and match at 25-14 over MSU. In the set, Powell had another four kills while Honebrink added two more kills of her own.
Overall, it was a trio of Mavericks that led the way offensively in the match. Powell led all Mavericks with 15 kills as Honebrink and Hassing each posted 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Van De Steeg led MSU with 50 assists as McNallan recorded seven kills of her own. Defensively, sophomore libero
Haley Fogarty led all Mavericks with 19 digs as Honebrink finished with 12 digs.
The next time the Mavericks hit the court will be on Saturday as they head to MSU Moorhead. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
