St. Louis, Mo. –  The Minnesota State women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season against the University of Missouri-St. Louis by the score of 83-68.

With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 3-1 on the season.

With 13:20 left in the first half, Minnesota State was holding on to an 8-6 lead over UMSL, however that would be their only lead of the game. The Tritons grabbed control in the rest of the first half as UMSL was able to build a 11 point adavantage over the Mavericks going into halftime, 37-26.

The Mavericks gave up 11 offensive rebounds in the first half which led to 16 second-chance points for the Tritons, where MSU had only 4 second chance points.

Leaders at the break were sophomore guard Sammie Delzotto and senior forward Lexie Ulfers. Delzotto posted six points, two rebounds and one steal, while Ulfers finished the first half with four points, two rebounds and one steal.

In the second half, the Tritons kept in control coming out of the break. The Mavericks were able to cut UMSL's lead down to single-digits a couple of times as MSU had it down to nine at 3:32 mark, 66-57. The Tritons answered right back and were able to extend their lead back to double-digits and ended up winning over the Mavericks, 83-68.

Again it was Delzotto leading all Mavericks in the second half as she added another 11 points, while senior forward Jamie Bresnahan recorded 10 points and four rebounds. Senior guard Ashley Olson also tallied nine points of her own to go along with three steals in the second half.

Overall, the difference in the game came down to the boards and second chance points as the Tritons posted 44 total rebounds and 22 second chance points, whereas the Mavericks recorded 28 total rebounds and 10 second chance points.

Individually, three Mavericks scored at least 10 points, as Delzotto led the charge as she matched her career with 17 points, to go along with three rebounds and two steals. Olson pitched in with 11 points, including three from beyond the arc, to go along with her five steals, three rebounds and two assists. Bresnahan finished the game with 10 points, four rebounds, one assist and one steal.

The next time the Mavericks hit the court will be their final nonconference game of the year, as they will play at Michigan Tech. That game is scheduled for next Saturday and the tip-off is set for 1 p.m (CT).
