Houghton, Mich. – The Minnesota State women's basketball team fell to Michigan Tech on Saturday afternoon by the score of 70-61.
With the loss, the Mavericks fall to 3-2 on the season.
In a low scoring first half where both teams shot under 30% from the field, the Mavericks were leading 13-10 over the Huskies with 9:25 left in the first half. From that point on, Minnesota State was able to extend its lead as the Mavericks went on a 12-3 run to make the score 25-13 in MSU's advantage with 3:22 left in the first half. However the Huskies were able to end the half on a run over their own as MT finished the half on a 7-0 run, to have the score going into the half being 25-20 with MSU leading.

McKenzie Hoelmenn as Ulfers posted nine points and six rebounds, while Hoelmenn ended the half with six points and five rebounds.
At the start of the second half, the Mavericks were able to build their lead over the Huskies to 12, at 38-26 with 15:16 left in the game. However that would be the biggest lead the Minnesota State had the rest of the game, as the Huskies were able to fight their way back into the game. At the 10:09 mark MT took the lead for good with the score being 45-43 and the Huskies never looked back. The Mavericks were still only down by four, 60-56 to the Huskies with 2:49 left in the game before MT took control to finish the game. The Huskies finished the half on a 10-5 run to end the game at 70-61.
In the second half, senior guard
Aubrey Davis led all Mavericks with 12 points and three rebounds, while Ulfers added another nine points and three rebounds to her stat sheet. Senior guard
Ashley Olson recorded six points of her own, with Hoelmenn adding another five points in the second half.
Overall, Ulfers finished the game just short of a double-double with career-highs in 18 points and nine rebounds. Davis tallied 14 points, five rebounds and two assists, as Hoelmenn ended the game with career-highs of her own, posting 11 points and six rebounds.
The Mavericks will now move on to NSIC play as they will take on conference foe Augustana. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at Taylor Center.
