St. Paul, Minn. – The Minnesota State volleyball team fell to #3 Concordia-St. Paul as it was swept on Tuesday night by the scores of 25-20, 25-19 and 25-21.
With the loss, the Mavericks record falls to 14-9 overall and 10-6 in the conference.
In the first set, the Mavericks found themselves down early to the Golden Bears, 7-2. MSU was able to cut their deficit to one, 12-11 before CU went on a 5-0 run to make the score 17-11. The Golden Bears went on to win the first set, 25-20 over the Mavericks. Freshman outside hitter
Sydney Powell led the Mavericks offensively with six kills as senior outside hitter
Chandra Honebrink recorded three kills in the set.
In set two, Minnesota State was holding tough as it was down 10-9 to CU, midway through second set. The set was still close as the Golden Bears were up 18-16 over the Mavericks before CU ended the set on a 7-3 run to win the second set, 25-19. Once again, Powell led MSU with four kills as sophomore middle blocker

Ellie Van De Steeg adding 12 assists in the set.
In the third and final set, the Mavericks found themselves tied with the Golden Bears 9-9, before CU went on a 7-1 run to make the score 16-10. The Golden Bears stayed in control the rest of the set as they took the set over the Mavericks, 25-21. Powell added another five kills to her stat sheet, with Honebrink pitching in four kills and senior outside hitter
Jenna McNallan posting three kills in the set.
Overall, Powell led all Mavericks with 15 kills as Honebrink finished second on the team with eight kills. McNallan and Hassing each tallied seven and six kills, respectively, as Van De Steeg accumulated 35 assists in the match. Defensively, senior defensive specialist
Haley Doran led MSU with 11 digs.
The next time the Mavericks hit the court will be at home, as they will play host to the University of Mary on Friday. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
