Mankato, Minn. –  The Minnesota State volleyball team lost to #12 Wayne State on Friday afternoon in four sets by the scores of 25-20, 25-18, 21-25 and 25-14.
With the loss, the Mavericks record falls to 12-7 overall and 8-4 in the conference. 
In set one, Wayne State jumped out to an early 6-1 advantage over Minnesota State before the Mavericks went on  a 6-1 run to tie the set at 7-7. The rest of the set would stay close as it was 19-19 before the Wildcats were able to go on a 6-1 run of their own to finish the set at 25-20. Senior outside hitter 
Chandra Honebrink led the Maverick offense with an impressive eight kills. Freshman middle blocker 
Vikolia Meade posted four kills as junior setter 
Ellie Van De Steeg added 13 assists.  
The Mavericks in second set, were within two with the Wildcats at 8-6, however that was the closest MSU got in the rest of the set as WSC took the set 25-18. Sophomore middle blocker 
Krista Hassing tallied  five kills and a .364 attack percentage. Honebrink and Meade each posted another three kills, as Van De Steeg pitched in with another 12 helpers. 
Minnesota State in set three was tied with Wayne State at 10-10 before the Mavericks took control of the set with a 19-15 lead at one point. The Purple and Gold were able to hold in the set with a 25-21 set three victory. Hassing recorded another six kills to her stat sheet as Honebrink had four more kills of her own. 
In the fourth and final set, the Mavericks were tied with the Wildcats 9-9, until WSC went on a 9-2 run to make the score 18-11. The Wildcats held on in the end as they took the set and match at 25-14. Hassing and Honebrink had three and two kills, respectively.
Overall, Honebrink led all Mavericks with 17 kills and 15 digs as Hassing wasn't too far behind with 16 kills and a .438 attack percentage. Meade chipped in with eight total kills as Van De Steeg finished the match with 40 assists. Senior defensive specialist 
Haley Doran and sophomore libero 
Haley Fogarty posted 14 and 13 digs, respectively. 
The next time the Mavericks hit the court will be on Saturday afternoon against #20 Augustana. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. at Taylor Center
