Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- The #20 Minnesota State men's basketball team kept things rolling in Taylor Center Saturday evening as it overwhelmed Wayne State 76-57.
With the win, MSU improves to16-3, including a 10-2 mark in NSIC action. With the loss, WSC falls to 8-8 on the season, including a 5-7 record in league action.
The Mavericks saw several players make contributions in their victory. Senior
Gage Wooten paced the MSU offense with 15 points, while junior
Assem Marei recorded his 12th career double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Senior
Connor O'Brien dropped in 13 points and brought down seven rebounds, while freshman
Mike Busack posted 11 points and six rebounds. Junior
Zach Monaghan passed out 11 assists as well. Sophomore
Jaymeson Moten and senior
Tanner Adlereach scored eight points as well.
MSU finished the night shooting 44.3% (27-of-61) from the field. It also outrebounded Wayne State 47-34, while passing out 17 assists.
Ty Bauschek led the Wildcat offense with 17 points, including a 10-of-11 performance from the free throw line.
The Mavericks controlled the tempo of the game through the entire first half as they led by as many as 17 points. As a unit, MSU shot 51.7% from the field as it took a 40-29 lead into the half.
O'Brien led all scorers in the opening frame with 13 points, to go along with five rebounds. Marei chipped in with six points and seven rebounds in the first half as well.
Bauschek led the Wildcat offense in the first half with 12 points, including a 5-of-5 showing from the line.
MSU maintained its double digit lead throughout the entire second half as it led by as many as 23 points, en route to the 76-57 victory.
The Mavericks hit the road on Friday as they take on the #16 Winona State Warriors. The opening tip is set for 6 p.m.
