St. Peter, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team wrapped up its NSIC schedule Saturday as it defeated both Minnesota Duluth and Southwest Minnesota State.
With the wins, MSU improves to 10-8 on the season, including a mark of 9-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. With the loss UMD fell to 3-8, with a 3-6 league record, while SMSU dropped to 2-11 on the season, with a 1-8 conference record.
The Mavericks began the day with an 8-1 victory over the UMD Bulldogs.
MSU claimed two of the three doubles matches as the pairing of senior
Brandi Dohmen and sophomore
Shealyn Bakke claimed an 8-1 win in the No. 1 doubles match, while junior
Alexis Ronney and freshman
Sarah McCann took the No. 2 doubles match 8-1.
The Mavericks finished the dual with a 6-0 sweep of the singles matches.

Kelly Lechowski claimed the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches by the scores of 6-1, 6-2, respectively, while McCann won the No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0. Bakke took the No. 4 singles match 6-4, 6-0, while freshman
Alexis Haakedahl secured the No. 5 singles match by the scores of 6-1, 6-0. Freshman
Monica Sanvik wrapped up the singles matches with a 6-1, 7-5 win in the No. 6 singles match.
Minnesota State finished its day with a 9-0 sweep of Southwest Minnesota State.
In doubles action, Dohmen and Bakke won the No. 1 doubles match 8-1. Ronney and McCann won the second doubles match 8-2, while Lechowski and senior
Hailey Robb won the No. 3 doubles match 8-1.
MSU finished with a 6-0 sweep of the singles matches against the Mustangs.
Dohmen and Bakke won the No. 1 and No. 2 singles matches, respectively, with identical scores of 6-0, 6-0. McCann secured the third singles match 6-1, 6-1, while Bakke won the No. 4 singles match 6-1, 6-0. Sanvik claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win in the No. 6 singles match, while Haakedahl won the No. 5 singles match by default due to an injury to SMSU’s Kayla Uphus.
The Mavericks take on Bethany Lutheran College Wednesday, at 4 p.m.
