Box Score 2 Orlando, Fla. --- The Minnesota State softball team finished up the Rebel Spring Games Thursday with a pair of wins against the LIU Post Pioneers (4-0) and the Northwood Timberwolves (10-2).
MSU went 9-1 at the Rebel Spring Games and now owns a 15-5 record on the season.
The Mavericks began the day with a 4-0 win over LIU Post. Senior
Courtney McKelvogue (8-3) earned the win as she threw her third complete game shutout of the season. She struck out four batters and allowed just four hits. Quincy Lewis (0-1) took the loss as she gave up four runs, one earned, in six innings.
Senior
Abby Sonner drove in the first run of the game with an RBI-single in the bottom of the second. Freshman
Laura Milligan scored on an error in the fourth inning, while junior
Samantha Holien stole home in the sixth. Freshman
Emily Bransky also scored in the sixth on a fielding error to give the Mavericks the 4-0 lead.
MSU finished the day with a 10-2 win over the Northwood Timberwolves. Sophomore
Brittany Lauterbach (2-1) earned the win as she gave up two runs, in four innings, while striking out two batters. Senior
Jenna Peterson threw the final three innings for the Mavericks as she allowed just two hits, while striking out two batters. Maddison Sebald (3-3) took the loss as she gave up 10 runs, eight earned, in seven innings of work.
The Timberwolves opened the game with a 2-0 lead as Sam Zaborowski drove in a run with an RBI-double in the first and third innings. MSU answered right back in the top of the fourth as juniors
Kelly Wood and
Anna Cole both posted RBI-singles to knot up the score at two.
MSU added two more runs in the fifth, before putting the game out of reach with a pair of three-run innings in the sixth and seventh innings to ice the game for the Mavericks.
Three Mavericks posted two hits in the game against Northwood including Bransky, Cole and Erickson. Eight different Minnesota State players drove in at least one run as well, with senior
Lauryn Morris leading the way with two runs batted in.
Minnesota State returns to action March 22 as it heads to St. Joseph, Mo., for the Missouri Western Tournament. MSU will take part in six games beginning with Central Missouri.
