Mavericks Spilt Day Four at Rebel Spring Games

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Orlando, Fla. --- The Minnesota State softball team saw its 11-game winning streak come to an end Wednesday as it fell to the Lees-McRae Bobcats 5-4, before defeating the Ashland Eagles 3-2.

With the 1-1 record, the Mavericks now own a 13-5 record on the season.

MSU began the day with a 5-4 loss to Lees-McRae. LMC’s Hollie Crickenberger (4-10) took the win, while MSU’s Brittany Lauterbach (1-1) took the loss as they each threw a complete game. Lauterbach gave up five runs, on seven hits, while posting six strikeouts. Crickenberger gave up four runs, three earned, in seven innings of work.

Junior Lindsay Erickson got the scoring going in the top of the third with a solo-shot to center field to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead. Senior Abby Sonner added an additional run in the third with an RBI-single to put MSU up 2-0. LMC’s Ashley Armstrong answered in the bottom of the third with a solo-shot of her own two pull within one of the Mavericks at 2-1.

Junior Eryn Edgerton drove in a run in the fourth, and senior Lauryn Morris tallied an RBI in the sixth, to increases MSU’s lead to 4-1. The Bobcats would put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh inning as they loaded the bases for Saddie Lagle who knocked a grand slam over the center field fence to give the Bobcats the 5-4 win.

The Mavericks finished the day with a 3-2 victory over the Ashland Eagles.

Senior Courtney McKelvogue (7-3) earned her seventh win of the season as she allowed just two runs, while striking out six batters, in seven innings. McKenna Galloway (0-2) was saddled with the loss as she gave up three runs, on 11 hits.

MSU got the scoring going in the first inning as Erickson tallied an RBI-single to give the Mavericks an early 1-0 lead. The Eagles managed to take the lead in the top of the fourth as Kourtney Yarnall and Carly West each drove in a run to give Ashland a 2-1 lead.

The Mavericks would answer right back in the bottom of the fourth as Erickson drove in another run on a sacrifice fly to knot up the score at two. The score remained tied heading into the bottom of the seventh, setting the stage for junior Anna Cole, who hit a walk-off home run to center field to give MSU the 3-2 win.

MSU wraps up the Rebel Spring Games Thursday as it takes on LIU Post at 8 a.m., and Northwood at 10 a.m.
