Winona, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team returned to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play with an 8-1 win over Minnesota, Crookston Friday evening.
With the win, the Mavericks improved to 5-2 on the season, including a 4-1 mark in NSIC play.
MSU began its dual with the Golden Eagles by taking two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead.

Sarah McCann won the No. 2 doubles match 8-1, while senior
Hailey Robb and freshman
Kelly Lechowski earned an 8-0 win in the No. 3 doubles match. The pairing of senior
Brandi Dohmen and sophomore
Shealyn Bakke fell in the No. 1 doubles match 8-5.
MSU went on the sweep the six singles matches to claim the 8-1 win.
Three Mavericks won their singles matches by the scores of 6-0, 6-0 including Dohmen in the No. 1 singles match , Ronney in the No. 6 singles match and freshman
Alexis Haakedahl in the No. 5 singles match.
Lechowski claimed the No. 2 singles match by the scores of 6-4, 6-3, while McCann won the No. 3 singles match 6-3, 6-2. Bakke won the No. 4 singles match as well by the scores of 6-2, 6-0.
MSU returns to action Saturday as it takes part in a pair of NSIC duals against the University of Mary at 3 p.m., and Winona State at 6 p.m.
