Box Score 2 Rochester, Minn. --- The Minnesota State softball team extended its winning streak to four games as it defeated Washburn 7-0 and St. Cloud State 8-2 Saturday afternoon at the NSIC/MIAA Crossover.
With the two wins, MSU now owns a 5-4 record on the season.
The Mavericks began the day with a 7-0 victory of the Washburn Lady Blues.
Freshman
Coley Ries (3-1) earned her third win of the season as she threw her first complete game shutout to give the Mavericks their fourth win of the season. Ries posted 10 strikeouts and gave up just two hits in the winning effort.
Lauren Thimmesch (2-4) took the loss as she gave up seven runs, five earned, in seven innings of work. She posted just three strikeouts compared to six walks.
The game remained scoreless through the first five innings as Ries and Thimmesch gave up a total of five hits combined. MSU finally broke through in the top of the sixth as it scored three runs on two hits and one Washburn error.
After scoring the game’s first run a wild pitch, the Mavericks jumped out to a 3-0 lead after a two-run single up the middle from junior
Eryn Edgerton. MSU added an additional four runs in the top of the seventh, two of which came off a fielder’s choice from sophomore
Chelsea Riordan.
Junior
Lindsay Erickson posted a game-high three hits, while Edgerton and junior
Samantha Holien each posted two hits.
MSU finished the day with an 8-2 win over St. Cloud State. Senior pitcher
Courtney McKelvogue earned her second win of the season.
As a team, MSU tallied 11 hits, three of which came off the bat of senior
Lauryn Morris. Junior
Anna Cole added two hits as well.
The Mavericks wrap up the NSIC/MIAA Crossover Sunday as they take on Lindenwood. The first pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m.
