Erickson notched a three-run double, proving to be the go-ahead runs in the bottom of the fifth inning against Nova Southeastern, the Mavericks downed the Sharks 11-7 improving to 2-4 on the season.

No. 6 Mavericks Split in final day of NFCA Leadoff Tournament

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Tucson, Ariz. --- The No. 6 Minnesota State University softball team played its final games of the NFCA Leadoff Classic, the Mavericks dropped the first game of the day to Abilene Christian, 5-2 but bounced back against Nova Southeastern earning the 11-7 win, improving to 2-4 on the season.
 
The Mavericks started senior pitcher Courtney McKelvogue in the circle against ACU, she pitched two-thirds of an inning giving up five runs on five hits, including two homeruns. Junior pitcher Kristen Fah came in as relief, Fah pitched 6.1 innings giving up five hits, but no runs.
 
MSU was led offensively by senior centerfielder Lauren Morris who recorded two hits and one run on four hits. Senior Lindsay Erickson recorded one hit and one RBI in three at bats, but the Mavericks could not complete the comeback, falling by a final score of 5-2, dropping to 1-4 on the season.
 
In the second game of the day it was sophomore Brittany Lauterbach getting the starting nod, she went 3.2 innings giving up four runs on six hits and earned her first win of the campaign. Senior pitcher Jenna Peterson came in to relieve Lauterbach, Peterson went two-thirds of an inning giving up two runs on two hits. Freshman Coley Ries relieved Peterson, Ries pitched 1.2 innings giving up one run on two hits. Mckelvogue was called to the circle to finish the tournament for the Mavericks, she pitched one inning and recorded two strike-outs.
 
It was Erickson who led the offensive charge for the Mavericks against NSU, she went 3-for-4 recording two runs and three RBI, including a three-run double to give MSU a 9-6 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning, the lead proved to be insurmountable and the Mavericks went on to earn the 11-7 victory improving to 2-4 on the season.
 
MSU recorded 11 runs on 12 hits with four errors compared to seven runs on 11 hits with three errors by the Sharks.
 
The Mavericks will return to the diamond to compete in the NSIC/MIAA Crossover Tournament, MSU will face Washburn in its first game of the tournament, first pitch is slated for 11 p.m., in Rochester, Minn. Friday morning.
