MANKATO, Minn. --- Women's hockey coach
Eric Means has announced that nine student-athletes have signed national letters of intent to attend Minnesota State University.
"We are graduating a very large class of players, and a group of girls that have played a lot of important minutes for us," said Means. "It was important that we replaced those players with high quality players."
This year's early signing class features six forwards, a pair of defensemen, and one goaltender, including five Minnesota natives.
"I think our staff has done an outstanding job in recruiting a group of players that have a chance to be among some of the best players to ever play here. The forwards have great pedigree when it comes to scoring, and we desperately need help in that area," commented Means. "I believe our two defensemen will be key players for us right away. Plus, it was important that we find a top goalie and we did that with (Katie) Bidulka."
Among MSU's nine recruits are two pairs of high school teammates in Red Wing's
Nicole Schammel and
Emily Stegora, along with Burnsville's
Lindsey Coleman and
Emma Wittchow.
Means added, "Of course, recruiting is not a science, but on paper this is the best class of players we have recruited to Mankato. They should provide an exciting future for Maverick Hockey!"
All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA clearinghouse.
