Mankato, Minn. --- The fifth-rated Minnesota State men's basketball team opens the home portion of its 2013-14 schedule as it hosts the Waldorf Warriors Friday, at 7 p.m., and the Jamestown Jimmies Sunday at 4 p.m.

Concerning the Mavericks: Last week, Minnesota State racked up a 2-1 record at the CCA Tipoff Classic, including a pair of wins against Texas A&M International (83-60) and Lindenwood (85-77), to go along with an 83-72 loss to Alaska Anchorage.
Through MSU's three games this season, junior
Assem Marei is averaging a team-high 15.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. Senior
Gage Wooten is averaging 14.3 points per game, while junior
Zach Monaghan is posting 13 points and four assists per game. Senior
Connor O'Brien posted his 13th career double double with 22 points and 11 rebounds against Lindenwood.
As a team, the Mavericks are averaging 80 points a game, to go along with 39.3 rebounds per contest. MSU is also shooting 48.5% from the field and has passed out 40 assists.
Concerning Waldorf: The Waldorf Warriors enter the weekend the owners of the 2-2 record, including an 81-77 win over Mount Mercy and a 66-56 loss to Cardinal Stritch last week.
Eric Brewer and Trey Scott currently lead the Waldorf offense with an average of 14.3 points per game. Scott also leads the Warriors in rebounds with an average 8.3 per game. Gunsby is averaging 14 points per game and has passed out 14 assists as well.
As a team, Waldorf is averaging 75.2 points and 39.2 rebounds per game. The Warriors are also shooting 43.5% from the field and have passed out 52 assists, to go along with 37 steals.
Former MSU assistant coach Nigel Jenkins is in his third season at the helm of the Waldorf men's basketball program and currently boasts a 29-30 record.
Concerning Jamestown: The Jamestown Jimmies currently boast a 2-4 record on the season, including a pair of losses to Oklahoma Wesleyan (89-85) and Culver-Stockton (100-91).
Mark Hoge is averaging a team-high 19.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Brequan Tucker is averaging 17 points per game as well.
The Jimmies are coached by Justin Wieck, who is in his second season at the helm of the Jamestown men's basketball team. He currently boasts a 10-30 record.
