Box Score Mankato, Minn. --- A trio of different Mavericks scored goals on a rain-soaked Sunday afternoon at The Pitch as fifth-rated Minnesota State dropped U-Mary, 4-0, in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
The victory elevates MSU's overall record to 9-1-0 and moves it to 7-0-0 in NSIC action. U-Mary falls to 2-7-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the league. The Mavericks also stretch their conference unbeaten streak to 27 matches and their home unbeaten streak to 29 matches; both are tied for 14th-longest in NCAA Division II history.
Sophomore
Korey Kronforst (Cary, Ill.) produced two goals for MSU in the win extending her point-scoring streak to six matches in which she has collected eight goals and an assist. Kronforst has seven goals in her last four matches. Junior
Molly McGough (Centennial, Colo.) picked up her fifth shutout of the year in the victory giving her 22 for her career in NSIC play and 30 overall. Her career shutouts are second-most all-time in the NSIC and 16th-best in NCAA Division II history.
The Maverick offense was firing on all cylinders early scoring just 3:52 into the match when Kronforst took a centering pass from junior
Kate Sandon (Urbandale, Iowa) and buried it into the heart of the net past Marauder junior
Shelby Buttron. MSU made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute courtesy of junior
Jessica Bowe (Anoka, Minn.) who hit the crossbar and both posts before the ball trickled into the net for her first goal of the season.
In the 66th minute, Kronforst struck again as she headed a ball from junior
Emily Moris (Woodbury, Minn.) into the left side for her team-leading ninth goal of the year. The Mavericks capped the victory in the 82nd minute when freshman
Maddy Smith (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) used a header of her own for her fourth goal of the year to complete the 4-0 victory.
Junior
Sydney Temple (Madison, Wis.) tallied two assists in the match bringing her season total to five, a team-best; while junior
Rebecca Pederson (Waconia, Minn.) chipped in two helpers on the day as well. Freshman
Morgan Storch (Littleton, Colo.) also recorded an assist for the Mavericks in the win.
Buttron posted a match-high seven saves for the Marauders before leaving the contest due to injury, while McGough notched three saves for MSU.
Minnesota State held an advantage over U-Mary in shots (39-11), shots on goal (16-3) and corner kicks (8-3) on the afternoon as it generated season-highs for shots, shots on goal (12), points (15) and assists (7) in the match.
The Mavericks return to action next Saturday when they take on the Wildcats of Wayne State at 1 p.m. in Wayne, Neb.
