Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women's tennis team suffered an 8-1 loss to Emporia State Saturday. With the loss MSU falls to 1-2 on the season.
MSU began the day winning one of the three doubles matches. The pairing of sophomore
Sarah McCann and freshman
Melissa Mashburn defeated Jennifer Gerhardt and Taylor Smith 8-5 in the No. 2 doubles match.
Emporia State swept the six singles matches to secure the 8-1 win. Senior
Alexis Ronney managed to force a third set, but ultimately fell to Amy Fugit by the scores of 6-1, 5-7, 12-10 in the No. 6 singles match. Junior
Shealyn Bakke also put forth a solid effort as she fell to Somer Schmidt 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match.
The Mavericks have completed their fall schedule and will return to action in February, where they will open the NSIC portion of their schedule.
