Box Score MANKATO, Minn. --- Six different players entered the scoring column as second-ranked Minnesota State defeated the University of Sioux Falls 7-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action at The Pitch Saturday afternoon. The clean sheet is the Mavericks' shutout on the year.
The Mavericks now stand 14-1-0 overall and 12-0-0 in NSIC play and are a riding an 11-match winning streak, while the Cougars fall to 2-12-1 on the year and 2-9-1 within the conference.
The Purple and Gold also stretches its NSIC and home unbeaten streaks to 32 matches which are 13th and tied for 11th all-time, respectively, in NCAA Division II history. MSU's conference unbeaten streak is the all-time NSIC record.
Minnesota State got on the board just two minutes into the match as senior
Courtney Vallarelli (Eagan, Minn.) tallied her fourth goal of the year after a centering pass from sophomore
Korey Kronforst (Cary, Ill.). Kronforst added a goal in the eighth minute giving the Mavericks a 2-0 cushion at the half.
At the intermission, MSU held a 13-3 advantage in shots and a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Mavericks came out aggressive in the second half as Kronforst scored her second goal of the match in the 56th minute. The marker was Kronforst's league-leading 16th goal of the season. Freshman
Kiana Nickel (Wayzata, Minn.) gave MSU a 4-0 lead over USF scoring off a pass from junior
Sydney Temple (Madison, Wis.) in the 68th minute. Senior
Tori Meinhardt (Maple Grove, Minn.) scored just two minutes later in the 70th minute, her fourth goal of the season.
Minnesota tallied two more goals in the final ten minutes of play. The first came from freshman
Maddy Smith (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) in the 82nd minute off of junior
Rebecca Pederson's (Waconia, Minn.) pass to the middle. Freshman
Karissa Prpich (Rapid City, S.D.) scored her first career goal as a Maverick in the 84th minute to round out the scoring giving MSU the 7-0 win.
Senior
Brittany Cygan (Woodbury, Minn.) recorded her second career shutout, saving three shots during the match.
Minnesota State continues play tomorrow as it takes on No. 25 Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m.
