Minnetonka, Minn. ---  The fourth-seeded Minnesota State women’s tennis team suffered a 5-1 defeat to fifth-seeded St. Cloud State Saturday afternoon in the opening round of the 2012 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tennis Tournament.

The Mavericks’ lone win came at the #3 doubles position where freshmen #Joey Bosch# and #Laura May# earned an 8-5 victory.  The Huskies sealed the win with three singles points at the #1, #3 and #6 positions.  Since the outcome of the match had been decided, the remaining three singles matches went unfinished.

Minnesota State (10-10) awaits its postseason fate which will be decided Tuesday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m.  The Mavericks were ranked sixth in the initial NCAA Regional Poll released earlier this month.  The top-four teams in each region advance to the national tournament.
