MSU vs. Minnesota, Crookston
Grand Forks, N.D. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team earned a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference wins Saturday, downing U-Mary, 8-1, and Minnesota, Crookston, 9-0, Saturday afternoon and evening in Grand Forks.
In the 8-1 win over U-Mary, Minnesota State swept through doubles action before winning five of six matches in singles play. Junior Kathryn Gavin win 6-1, 6-0 at the #1 slot while fellow junior #Brandi Dohmen# won 6-1, 6-0 at the #2 position. Freshman Joey Bosch earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at the #3 slot and was followed by a 6-0, 6-0 win by freshman #Shealyn Bakke#. Freshman #Laura May# notched the Maverick’s final win of the night with a 6-1, 6-1 decision at the #5 position.
Against Minnesota, Crookston the Mavericks again swept the doubles matches to open a 3-0 lead and never look back.
In singles play, Gavin earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory at the #1 slot while Dohmen won 6-1, 6-0 at the #2 position. The wins continued at the #3 slot as Bosch won 6-1, 6-2 and Bakke followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the #4 spot. May picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win at the #5 position and junior Ashley VanRiper picked up here victory of the year with a 6-3, 6-3 at the #6 slot.
Minnesota State (9-8, 7-2 NSIC) returns to action April 12 when it travels to St. Joseph’s, Minn., to face St. Benedicts in its final regular season match of the 2012 season.
