Sartell, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday, defeating Bemidji State, 9-0, before falling to Winona State, 7-2. Both matches were played in Gold’s Gymnasium in Sartell, Minn.
Against, Winona State, the Mavericks won at the #3 doubles where freshmen #Laura May# and Joey Bosch earned an 8-3 victory. In single action, freshman Shealyn Bakke picked up a 7-5, 3-6, 10-4 victory at the #4 flight.
In the nightcap, MSU swept through the doubles flights yielding just nine games over the three matches to the Beavers.
Singles action opened with junior #Kathryn Gavin# earning a 6-0, 6-2 win at the top-flight, followed by 6-1,7-5 win by Bosch at the #3 flight. The winning continued as Bakke won 6-1, 6-0 at the #3 flight and a 6-1, 6-0 win by junior Brandi Dohmen at the #2 flight. May won 6-1, 6-2 at the #5 flight and junior Hailey Robb wrapped up the shutout with a 6-0, 6-1 win at the #6 slot.
Minnesota State (7-8, 5-2 NSIC) travels to Sioux Falls, S.D., Wednesday to face Augustana. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
