MSU vs. St. Olaf Results | MSU vs. MSU Moorhead Results
Mankato, Minn. – The Minnesota State tennis team played to a split Saturday falling to St. Olaf, 8-1 before defeating MSU Moorhead, 7-1.
In the first match of the day, MSU dropped an 8-1 decision to St. Olaf as freshman #Shealyn Bakke# picked up MSU’s lone victory at #4 singles, 7-6 (9-7), 5-7, 11-9, in a match that was played in Owatonna.
The Mavericks rebounded to earn a 7-1 victory over MSU Moorhead in Minnetonka to close the day. Minnesota State swept the doubles matches, as junior #Kathryn Gavin# and Bakke won at the #1 flight, 8-3. Junior #Brandi Dohmen# and freshman #Joey Bosch# won 8-5 at the #2 flight while junior #Hailey Robb# and freshman Laura May wrapped up the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at the third flight.
In singles action, May earned a 6-2, 6-1 win at the #5 flight to open play while Bakke followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the #4 spot. MSU’s third singles win came via Bosch 6-2, 6-2 win at the #3 position while Robb won 6-3, 6-1 at the #6 spot. Dohmen rounded out the Maverick victory with a 6-2, 6-2 win that the #2 flight.
Minnesota State’s lone loss came in a tightly contested match at the #1 flight s Gavin fell 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).
MSU (4-2, 2-0 NSIC) returns to action Thursday as it travels to St. Cloud State for a 3 p.m., dual.
