Pueblo, Colo. --- Minnesota State (1-3) went 1-1 on Saturday of the 2012 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference/Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Crossover Challenge in Pueblo, Colo. The Mavericks beat CSU-Pueblo 5-1 in the morning and suffered a 4-3 loss to UC-Colorado Springs in the afternoon.
Minnesota State got its first win of the season against the host school CSU-Pueblo on Saturday morning at Rawlings field. In the second inning, MSU freshman third baseman
Brittani Robinson hit her first collegiate homerun to start off the second inning. Junior designated hitter
Liz Doppenberg ripped a one-out single down the left field line to keep the Mavericks rolling in the second. Doppenberg crossed the dish after the Thunderwolves made a throwing error as MSU led 2-0 after two innings.
In the top of the fourth, MSU redshirt freshman right fielder
Christina Redd singled and proceeded to steal second base and then third base before she crossed the plate after a throwing error by the catcher.
The Thunderwolves loaded the bases up with no outs in the bottom half of the fourth inning and marked just one run.

Chelsea Erickson doubled in the fifth inning and eventually scored after
Abby Sonner landed on second base from a throwing error by the CSU-Pueblo shortstop, giving MSU a 4-1 lead.
The Mavericks accelerated to a 5-1 lead in the sixth with senior second baseman
Amanda Umhoefer scored after
Lindsay Erickson delivered an RBI double to center.
Minnesota State’s Lindsay Erickson, Umhoefer, Wood, Robinson all had two hit games against the Thunderwolves.

Courtney McKelvogue gave up one run in her three innings pitched, earning credit for the win.
Kendra Huettl pitched the final four shut out innings, allowing just two hits in her four innings pitched.
In the second game, a two-run seventh inning wasn’t enough to fend off the UC- Colorado Springs as the Mavericks fell 4-3.
The Mountain Lions jumped on the board early as they scored one run that was ignited by a two-out triple.
In the third inning, Minnesota State tied the game at 1-1. MSU junior outfielder
Lauryn Morris marked a bunt single to lead off the inning and then stole second base. With Morris on second, Umhoefer laid down a bunt single to score Morris before being thrown out at second base on the play.
The game went all the way to the sixth inning before the Mountain Lions used three runs in the sixth to set them up for the win.
Minnesota State didn’t let up as it took the game to the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs in the inning. Redd and Morris led the inning off on a pair of walks. The outfield duo moved up a base on a wild pitch, setting up runners on second and third with no outs. Umhoefer loaded the bases with a walk before UC-Colorado Springs forced a pop-out and a strike out. Robinson singled to center field to bring in two runs, tightening the score within one. MSU left two runners stranded on base after a fly out to center field.
Minnesota State’s Robinson led the team going 3-for-4 at the plate as
Lauryn Morris scored two runs.
Minnesota State falls to 1-3 on the season and return to action Sunday against Nebraska Kearney at 12 p.m. (MST).
