Mankato, Minn. ---  The Minnesota State men’s basketball team closed the nonconference portion of its schedule with a 92-63 victory over Mount Marty Saturday evening in front of 482 fans in the Taylor Center on the campus of Minnesota State University.

The Mavericks opened the game with a 15-2 run and never looked back.  All nine Mavericks that played in the first half scored as sophomore post Assem Marei led the team with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting and 5-of-5 from the line.  Junior wing Gage Wootenadded ten points to the Maverick attack.

Minnesota State shot a scorching 63.9 percent the floor in the opening 20 minutes, including 73.9 percent in the first 11 minutes and 41 seconds of the game.

“This was a good test for us to get our legs back after our trip to California,” said head coach Matt Margenthaler.  “Now the fun starts as we gear up for league play next week as we open with Concordia.”

The second half played much like the first as the Lancers never pulled within 20.

In all, three Mavericks scored in double-digits led by Marei’s 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting.  Redshirt freshman guard Jaymeson Moten added 14 on 5-of-11 shooting including 4-of-10 from downtown.  Wooten added ten, all of which were in the first half.   In all, all ten Mavericks to play found points next to their name in the scorebook.

Sophomore guard Zach Monaghan passed out a game-high nine assists to go with his seven nine points, six of which came in transition dunks.  Sophomore wing Lucas Brown added eight points to go with a game-high eight rebounds.

Minnesota State shot 55.9 percent from the floor in the win.

Minnesota State (4-0) returns to action next Saturday when they host Concordia.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
