Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State swimming and diving team opened the 2012-13 season Friday evening with a 178-118 win over the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire in Highland Pool on the campus of Minnesota State University.
The Mavericks claimed wins in 14 events, including victories in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:40.66) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.70).
Individually, the Mavericks won 12 races, and scored points in a total of 19.
Senior Nicole Blum claimed victories in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:04.31 while also
earning the 500-yard freestyle crown with a time of 5:23.03.
In the 200-yard freestyle, junior Stephanie Jordan touched in 2:01.80 while freshman Emilie Berg won the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of :30.92. Berg also claimed the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.50.
Senior Megan Pickert was a double-winner in the 50-yard backstroke and the 50-yard freestyle touching in :28.97 and :25.31, respectively.
Sophomore Ivanna Smirnova picked up three wins, earning the 100-yard butterfly title with a time of :59.41 and the 100-yard freestyle crown with a mark of :53.94. She also won the 50-yard butterfly swimming the course in :26.97.
Sophomore Emily Green won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.30 while senior Tabby Temperly won the
200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:15.07.
The Mavericks return to action Nov. 3, when they travel to the St. Olaf Invite.
