Box Score Minot, N.D. – Minnesota State finished a two-game North Dakota road trip with a 3-0 sweep over Minot State Saturday, behind a 16 kill effort by senior outside hitter
Chelsea Fogarty. With the win the Mavericks improve to 14-5 overall and 8-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).
The Mavericks hit a blistering .417 in set 1 as they were able to down the Beavers 25-13 to improve to 1-0 in the match. Minnesota State jumped out to a fast 10-5 lead behind Fogarty who recorded four of the Mavericks first six points.
Minnesota State’s offense cooled down in the second half as it hit .209, and was able to record 16 kills on 43 attempts with seven errors. The Mavericks came away with the 25-21 win in the second set to take the 2-0 advantage going into intermission.
The Mavericks came out firing in the third set looking for their third sweep of the 2012 campaign. Minnesota State hit .324 in the set while holding Minot State to a pedestrian .176 and cruised to the 25-19 victory, defeating the Beavers 3-0.
Minnesota State was led by Fogarty who came up two digs short of her fourth consecutive double-double, she finished the match with 16 kills and eight digs. Senior middle blocker
Jill Storlie and sophomore
Tiana Runck each finished the match with nine kills and four blocks.
The Mavericks will return action Tuesday as they travel to St. Paul, Minn. to square off against No. 6 Concordia-St. Paul, game time is slated for 7 p.m.
