Mayaguez, Puerto Rico --- The Minnesota State men's tennis team opened its week-long stay in Puerto Rico with a 5-4 win over Albion College Monday.
Albion opened the match with a pair of victories in doubles play as MSU's lone win came at the #2 flight where junior
Marco Vazquez and freshman
Xue Chang picked up an 8-4 victory.
Minnesota State then rallied to take four of the six singles matches to earn the win.
Sophomore
Mitch Barr started the rally with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the #1 flight and was followed by Vazquez's 6-1, 6-1 win at the #2 flight giving MSU a 3-2 advantage.
Sophomore
Cole Jensen fell 6-3, 6-2 at the #3 flight allowing Albion to tie the match before sophomore
Christian Bernal won 6-3, 6-3 at the #4 flight to give MSU a 4-3 edge.
Minnesota State then sealed the victory at the #6 flight when sophomore Mike Lindamen won 6-2, 6-0.
The Mavericks (5-3) return to action tomorrow morning when they face the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez.
