What's Lies Ahead: The Minnesota State softball team continues the nonconference portion of its schedule this next week as it travels to the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla. The Mavericks are slated to play eight games in the next 14 days beginning with a 3 p.m. (EST) contest against Northwoods University Saturday.
About the Trip: Minnesota State will play a challenging schedule while in Florida as Ashland (who MSU plays on March 12 at 11 a.m.) is ranked #20. California (Pa), Saginaw Valley and Wayne State (Mich.) are all receiving votes.
Up Until Now: Minnesota State enters the week with an 8-1 record and are coming off a sweep of Minnesota Duluth last week by scores of 5-3 and 4-3 (8).
Honors, Accolades and More: Minnesota State sophomore pitcher
Courtney McKelvogue pitched her way to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week award following MSU's sweep of Minnesota Duluth.
The West Des Moines, Iowa native picked up a pair of wins over the Bulldogs, both of which came in relief. McKelvogue closed out MSU 5-3 win over UMD with 5.1 innings of no-hit ball, striking out five. She needed just 59 pitches to get her 16 outs, converting 43 of those pitches for strikes.
In the nightcap, she worked three innings striking out three while allowing just one hit. For the week she finished with 8.1 innings pitched, eight strikeouts and one walk while limiting her opponents to a .037 batting average while not issuing a run - earned or unearned.
Lead Me: Junior centerfielder
Chelsea Erickson leads the Mavericks in several offensive categories. Erickson enters this week's play leading the team in batting average (.538), slugging percentage (.857), on base percentage (.600), runs scored (10), hits (14), and doubles (5). She is also tied for the lead in RBI (9) and home runs (2).
On the mound, sophomore
Courtney McKelvogue leads MSU in earned run average (0.77), opposing batting average (.117), record (5-0) and batters struck out (37).
What Lies Ahead: Minnesota State travels to Rochester, Minn., March 19-20 for a triangular with Winona State and Upper Iowa.
