St. Peter, Minn. --- The Minnesota State women’s tennis team recorded a pair of 9-0 victories Saturday as it downed Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Minnesota, Crookston and Martin Luther at the Swanson Tennis Center in St. Peter, Minn.
In the opener, the Mavericks made quick work of the doubles competition, allowing the Golden Eagles to win just seven of the 31 games.
At the top-doubles flight, senior Sarah Madigan and sophomore Kathryn Gavin earned a 8-3 win at the top flight and were followed by sophomore Brandi Dohmen and freshman Danni Collins earned an 8-2 win at the #3 flight. The doubles concluded with an 8-2 win by the #2 flight where juniors Heather Jensen andTegan Bakke earned an 8-2 win.
In singles action, Madigan won at the #1 flight, 6-1, 6-0 and Gavin won at the #2 flight, 6-0, 6-0. Dohmen picked up a 6-1, 6-1, win at #3 flight while Jensen won 6-0, 6-2 at the #4 spot. Baake claimed a 6-1, 6-0 at the #5 flight and sophomore Jenny Gustafson won 6-3, 6-2 at the #6 flight to secure the shutout.
The nightcap played like the opening match of the day for the Mavericks. The lone change came at the #6 singles spot where sophomore Jenny Gustafson picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win.
Minnesota State (4-0) returns to action Feb. 17 when it travels to St. Cloud State.
