What's Up?: The Minnesota State men's basketball team hosts Dickinson State Sunday afternoon in its lone home game during the month of November. The game, which is the season-opener for Minnesota State, is set to start at 4 p.m.
Minnesota State History: The 2011-12 season marks the 90th campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men’s basketball. The Mavericks are 1,180-822 (.589) in 2,002 games since the program’s inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 50-12 record (.806) to go with a pair of regular-season championships.
The Mavericks have also made seven previous appearances in the NCAA Tournament, going 12-9 (.571) in those trips.
A Little Bit About Our Opponent: Dickinson State enters the weekend with a 2-4 record and plays Friday and Saturday night in the Northwestern College (Orange City, Iowa) Classic before traveling to Mankato. Sunday's game is officially an exhibition game for the Blue Hawks and not for the Mavericks.
Junior forward Matthew Lee leads the Blue Hawks – who are a NAIA Division II member – in scoring averaging 15.3 points per game and 8.2 rebounds per game while senior forward Casper Hesseldal who is averaging 15.2 points per game. Dickinson State is coached by Ty Orton who is in his fifth season with the program.
