Mavericks Open Five-Game Roadtrip Saturday in Michigan

What's Up?: The Minnesota State men's basketball team travels to Houghton, Mich., Saturday afternoon for a nonconference tilt against Michigan Tech.  Tip-off is set for 2 p.m (EST).

Minnesota State History: The 2011-12 season marks the 90th campaign as a varsity sport for Minnesota State men’s basketball. The Mavericks are 1,181-822 (.590) in 2,003 games since the program’s inception in the 1920-21 season. MSU capped its 33rd and final season as a member of the NCC in 2008 and owned a 283-267 (.515) record in 550 league games played. In the NSIC, MSU owns a 50-12  record (.806) to go with a pair of regular-season championships.
    The Mavericks have also made seven previous appearances in the NCAA Tournament, going 12-9 (.571) in those trips.

A Little Bit About Our Opponent:  Michigan Tech enters the 2011-12 season as the favorite to win the North Division of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.  The Huskies return 11 of 14 players from a year ago, including four of the five starters. A year ago, Michigan Tech finished 17-11, including an 11-8 mark in the GLIAC.
    
Last Saturday, the Huskies dropped an 81-80 decision to Minnesota Duluth as the Huskies shot 49.2 percent from the floor and was outrebounded 43-29.  

Junior Ali Haidar led the Huskies in scoring with 21 points while senior Mike Hojnacki added 14 points and a team-high six rebounds.  Kevin Luke is in his 18th season with the program and owns a 300-190 record with the program.

Series Notes: Minnesota State owns a 22-8 all-time record against Michigan Tech, including a 2-1 mark under head coach Matt Margenthaler...Last year, Minnesota State earned a 63-61 victory over the Huskies...Minnesota State returns 22.2 percent of its scoring from last year's game against Michigan Tech...Senior Stephen Kirschbaum and sophomore Connor O'Brien each scored six points last year against the Huskies while sophomore Jimmy Whitehead had two points.
