Moorhead, Minn.—The Minnesota State track and field team participated in day one of the 2010 NSIC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Friday, sitting in fourth-place with 32.5 points after day one.
Junior Lauren Stelten earned 10 points with a first-place finish in the pole vault (3.81m), senior Whitney Kroschel finished second (3.36m) for 5.5 points, and freshman Laura Schuneman finished eighth (3.21m) for .5 points.
Senior Andrea Sellers earned four points in the javelin throw (33.82m) with a fifth-place finish and 2.5 points in the high jump with a sixth-place finish. Sellers finished fifth last week in the NSIC Mutli event, tallying four more points for the Mavericks.
Senior Amelia Schaller finished seventh in the hammer throw with a distance of 45.79, tallying two more points for the Mavericks.
In the 10,000-meter run, freshman Ali Paul earned four points with a fifth-place finish, running a time of 36:39.53.
Six other Maverick tracksters qualified for finals tomorrow, senior Brittany Henderson and senior Kelsey Leonard qualified in the 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Leonard also qualified in the 400-meter dash. Freshman Danielle Jones advanced in the 100-meter dash while freshman Becca Schmidt qualified in the 200-meter dash and freshman Annie Dahl advanced in the 400-meter hurdles. Sellers also qualified for the finals tomorrow in the 100-meter hurdles.
The Mavericks will finish competition in the NSIC championships tomorrow.
