What Lies Ahead: The Minnesota State women's tennis team – ranked seventh in the latest Central Regional Ranking – travels to St. Cloud Thursday to face the Huskies in a 4 p.m., contest. The Mavericks return to St. Peter Sunday to host Winona State at 9 a.m.
What Just Happened: Minnesota State traveled to Kearney, Neb., at the end of March for a pair of regional matches. The Mavericks opened the weekend with a 6-3 loss to UNK, before bouncing back to defeat Mesa State, 5-1 and Metro State 5-0.
Rankings: In the March 30th edition of the ITA Central Region rankings, the Mavericks as a squad were ranked seventh. Junior #1 singles player
Sarah Madigan was ranked ninth individually, while Madigan and freshman
Kathryn Gavin were ranked #6 in doubles.
More on the Rankings: St. Cloud State is the top ranked team in the region according to the ITA, while Winona State is ranked #9. The Huskies Jacquelyn Doll is ranked #3 in the region, while Kelley Freese is #15. The duo of Doll and Freese is #2 in doubles play. Winona State's Heather Pierce is #8 in the region.
St. Cloud State is also ranked #50 in the national rankings by the ITA.
What's Next: The Mavericks close out the regular-season portion of their schedule April 17, as they travel to Aberdeen, S.D., to play Northern State at 10:30 a.m.
