Getting to Know..........Dan Novak

Minnesota State Men's Track and Field
Minnesota State sophomore pole vaulter Dan Novak hails from Wausau, Wis.   The biology major made his first appearance in last year’s NCAA Division II indoor championships and finished second in his first appearance at the national meet. As a sophomore this year, Novak vaulted 16’11” (he went 16’10 3/4” as a freshman) in becoming a two-time All-American. Novak finished 13th at the 52nd annual Mt. SAC Relays this year with a vault of 4.85 meters outdoors.

“Dan is an extraordinary athlete with great poise under pressure.  He’s a great pole vaulter and we expect great things from him this outdoor season.  He represents our university well," said MSU track & field head coach Mark Schuck

 

1.  Ten Questions With Dan Novak

          How did you end up at MSU?

     "I came on an official visit to Mankato really late in my senior year and decided it had everything I needed/ wanted academically and athletically."

 

2.     What is your favorite thing about track and field?

       "My favorite thing about track and field is the people whether your teammates or competitors everyone is always ready to help out."

 

3.     What are you planning on doing after graduation?

      "I currently am a Biology major, and am undecided on what I want to do after graduation. I would love to continue to train for track but it's too far away to tell."

 

4.     Whats your favorite pre-event meal?

       "My favorite meal the night before a meet is probably a steak, I don't really know why but it just is, and the day of I normally just have a bagel."


5.     What is the biggest thing that you have accomplished here at MSU?

     "My biggest accomplishments while at MSU have been my two All-American honors for finishing as National runner up my freshmen and sophomore years during the indoor season."

 

6.     What is your favorite movie?

        "hmm my favorite movie, maybe not my favorite but, The Hangover."

 

7.     What does a college track and fielder like to do in their free time?

        "In my free time I like to hang out with my friends and just try and get away from school and pole vaulting every once an a while."

 

8.     If you could go anywhere in the world where you go? Why?

     "Europe. Just to travel and see all the amazing architecture and culture differences."

 

9.      Is there anyone who encouraged you to become a track and field participant?

         "My brother and sister were my biggest track encourager's..."

 

         What is your favorite inspirational quote?

         "Goals in writing are dreams with deadlines."

 

11.      If you could change something about your career, what would it be and why?

        "Just enjoying things no matter how a competition goes."
