Mankato, Minn. --- Minnesota State men's basketball coach
Matt Margenthaler has announced that Anthony Brant has signed a national letter of intent to attend Minnesota State University in the fall and play as a member of the MSU men's basketball program.
All signings are contingent upon admission to MSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
Brant – a St. Paul, Minn., native and a Tartan High School graduate – has played for Vermillion Community College over the past two seasons in Ely, Minn., for head coach Paul McDonald. He joins St. Cloud Tech's Alex Hanks as newcomers to the Maverick basketball squad in the fall of 2010.
At VCC, Brant averaged 20.7 points per game which was 22nd nationally among NJCAA Division III players. He finished the year shooting 43 percent from the floor, 44 percent from the three-point line and 77 percent from the free throw line. Last year, he connected on 130 three point field goals (to put in perspective, as a squad MSU hit 156 three point field goals) while averaging 6.65 rebounds per game and 3.9 assists per game. He also gathered 91 steals – an average of 3.25 per contest.
"We are extremely excited to have Anthony join the Minnesota State men's basketball family," said Margenthaler. "He is one of those kids who can shoot the lights out and gets after it defensively. He will be a great addition to our team."
The Mavericks finished the 2009-10 season with a 25-5 record.
