Mankato, Minn. --- The Minnesota State softball team dropped two games Saturday afternoon to the University of Mary, 6-3 and 10-0.
The Marauders opened the first game with three runs off three hits in the top of the first. The inning was highlighted by a two-run home run by Dre Brunskill.
The Mavericks earned their first two runs in the bottom of the third as junior Natalie Spicer doubled to left center bringing two runners in. Minnesota State had two hits with one error.
Mary added one run in the fourth and two more in the sixth to push a 6-2 lead.
Senior shortstop Libbie Reichling singled up the middle and came around to score on an error.
The Mavericks picked up three runs off six hits, while the Marauders tallied six runs off nine hits.
Huettl took the loss for the Mavericks. Freshman pitcher Courtney McKelvogue worked six and two thirds of relief allowing three runs off three hits while stirking out four.
In game two, the Marauders jumped out to an early lead as they picked up three runs in the t5op of the first off four hits. Mary added another run in the fourth and six runs in the fifth to close out the 10-0, five-inning victory.
Thompson earned a double to right center in the bottom of the third. Reichling tallied a single to left field in the bottom of the fourth followed by a double to left field from junior Julie O'Neal in the bottom of the fifth.
Huettl suffered the loss in the night cap, falling to 8-4 on the season. Freshman Jenna Peterson pitched four innings allowing six runs off eight hits. Sophomore Katie Kruse came in to relieve Peterson in the fifth, allowing one run off three hits.
Minnesota State (17-7, 3-3 NSIC) return to the Diamond at Gage Towers tomorrow to host Northern State, first pitch slated for 12 p.m.
